How do I apply for mitigation?

Please note: A dedicated webpage for information about COVID-19, containing FAQ’s, can be accessed here.

Mitigation acknowledges certain circumstances that may impact on your performance at the first attempt of an exam or assessment.

There are two types of Mitigation, deferral or waiver of capping.

  • Deferral application form: Use this if you want to defer all your exams and/or assessments, because of documented circumstances that impact substantially on your ability to prepare for or perform at your best in an exam.
  • Waiver of Capping application form: Most students will not need to apply for a waiver of capping in academic year 2020/2021. This is because, Under UCC's No Academic Disadvantage policy, marks will not be capped in the Autumn supplemental (repeat) examinations or assessments (except where there has been a breach of examination regulations). If you need to apply for a retrospective waiver of capping relating to a previous year, please contact sreo@ucc.ie.
