How do I apply for mitigation? - Hot Topic

Please note: A dedicated webpage for information about COVID-19, containing FAQ’s, can be accessed here.

Mitigation acknowledges certain circumstances that may impact on your performance at the first attempt of an exam or assessment.

There are two types of Mitigation, Module/Examination deferral and Waiver of capping of Marks.

Module/Examination Deferral for when you want to defer exams and/or assessments, because of documented circumstances that impact substantially on your ability to prepare for or perform at your best in an exam.

Waiver of Capping of Marks for when you need to apply for a Waiver of capping of marks for Supplemental (Repeat) examinations or assessments if you can prove you had mitigating circumstances/grounds which affected your performance for a first attempt examination.

Please note the following:

Where you have been found to have breached examination regulations for a module, you cannot apply for a Waiver of capping of marks for that module.

To apply for a Waiver of capping of marks, you must wait until your results have been finalised for the academic year i.e. after Spring or Summer Examination Boards, depending on your programme. Semester 1 results are Provisional until they are finalised at Spring/Summer Examination Boards.

For more information and how to apply see Examinations - Mitigation

If you need to apply for a retrospective waiver of capping relating to a previous year, please submit your request using the Current Student Queries form below selecting your Student Type, Examinations and Mitigation - Waiver of Capping of Marks Query. You can enter your request in the space provided.
